Public officials are like, “Yo, Trump, help us out with these disasters, man!” But Trump is all like, “Nah, I’ll pass.” States hit by tornadoes, floods, and storms are straight-up frustrated because Trump ain’t making any moves on their requests for aid. He’s leaving them hanging, not deciding on millions of dollars in FEMA funding. So some places are still a hot mess from extreme weather with no cleanup in sight.
In Walthall County, Mississippi, where tornadoes wrecked stuff in March, the emergency management director, Royce McKee, is all, “We’re stuck waiting on FEMA to give us the green light.” The county can’t even afford to clean up all the debris, man. They’re just chilling, waiting for Trump to do something about the disaster request Governor Tate Reeves put in on April 1. This is after the tornadoes killed seven people, messed up 671 homes, and caused $18.2 million in public damage. McKee is bummed, especially for the peeps who lost their homes.
Trump straight-up dissed FEMA back in January, calling them “super slow.” And now everyone is flipping out over how he’s handling disasters. Trump even canned FEMA leader Cameron Hamilton and brought in David Richardson, who knows nothing about emergency management. At a hearing, Senator Josh Hawley begged Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to get Trump to approve three disaster requests from Missouri that have been sitting on his desk since early April. It’s like a hot mess out there, and peeps need help, man.
