Kaylin, who is 16 years old and starred in the TV series “Just Roll With It,” received a phone call from the FBI informing her that her face had been superimposed on images of adults engaging in sexual acts without her knowledge. The emotional impact on Kaylin was profound, as she expressed feeling violated and stripped of her innocence.
Unfortunately, Kaylin’s story is not unique. Last year, there were 4,700 reports of images or videos depicting the sexual exploitation of children generated by AI, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in the US. These AI-generated images have become so realistic that law enforcement officials like Terry Dobrosky in Ventura County, California, face the challenging task of distinguishing between computer-generated images and those involving real victims.
Terry Dobrosky highlighted the disturbing nature of the AI-generated content, noting that it can erode existing laws and create loopholes for offenders to exploit. The rise of AI in creating and distributing child sexual abuse images poses a significant threat to the legal system and law enforcement efforts.
